Major French outlet deliver extremely harsh ratings for both teams after Newcastle United drew with PSG
Newcastle United and PSG couldn't be separated again last night, and as a result, both sides now go into the draw for the play-offs on Friday, where they will draw either Monaco or Qarabag.
The two sides put on a fantastic show last night at the Parc des Princes, with Newcastle fans arguably the happier of the two sets of fans.
PSG started strong and dominated the opening exchanges, but Newcastle grew into the game, and if anyone was going to steal a win, it looked like it would be the Geordies.
it wasn't meant to be, however, and the game finished as a draw with Newcastle's Dan Burn picking up Player of the Match after his strong display in his first game back after a broken rib and punctured lung.
Lewis Miley bore the brunt of L'Equipe's overly harsh ratings
Even though Burn picked up the Player of the Match award, French outlet L'Equipe, who are infamous when it comes to player ratings, only gave the Blyth-born giant a score of seven, along with Nick Pope and goal scorer Joe Willock.
L'Equipe have an impenetrable paywall, so a massive nod to The Chronicle for relaying this information. The French outlet handed Lewis Miley a rating of 4/10. Obviously, Miley had a shaky start, conceding a penalty that never was, and he was skinned by Bradley Barcola a couple of times, but as Newcastle grew in confidence so did he and he actually ended up having a really good game. Their explanation is also baffling.
"Miley was doubly at fault by letting Bradley Barcola go first, then by conceding a penalty, which was the symbol of a completely failed start to the match for the English.
"The English defence took on water for 15 minutes, before resurfacing and showing solidarity throughout the rest of the meeting like a Dan Burn who was not very academic, but very effective.
"Little by little, the visitors regained a little more colour until the English equaliser from Joe Willock after a free kick played in the area. The winger was the most restless element of the Magpies."
What does it take to impress L'Equipe?
They handed Sandro Tonali a 5/10 even though we thought he had one of his better games in a while. We knew that L'Equipe were harsh and would give us a chuckle, but howay man!
In fairness, though, they weren't exactly full of praise for PSG either, with Marquinhos and Achraf Hakimi picking up 4/10 ratings too. Very harsh on both of those players, we feel.
We wonder what a player has to do to get anything above a seven from L'Equipe. Maybe scoring a bicycle kick from the halfway line might get you an eight.
