'Magician': Malick Thiaw praises 'incredible' teammate after Newcastle United's win over Crystal Palace
Malick Thiaw scored his first goal at St James' Park for Newcastle United on Sunday as the Magpies beat Crystal Palace 2-0 to launch themselves into the top half of the league.
Bruno Guimaraes broke the deadlock for Newcastle on 71 minutes after Anthony Gordon and Joelinton both saw goals chalked off in the first half. Malick Thiaw doubled the lead just seven minutes later.
Bruno's goal took him to seven for the season, equalling his highest ever goals tally for the Toon already. It also puts him alongside Nick Woltemade as the club's top scorer this season.
Thiaw's goal was his third of the season following his brace at Everton, but this being his first in front of the home crowd, the German says it was extra special.
Malick Thiaw is very impressed with Bruno Guimaraes
Speaking to Premier League Productions after the game, Thiaw heaped praise on his fellow goalscorer, Bruno Guimaraes, hailing him as an incredible player.
“Bruno Guimaraes is incredible. Off the pitch, a super nice guy - but on the pitch, his quality speaks for itself. Some things he does, I’m like wow - what a player!
“It was an amazing feeling to score my first goal at St James’ Park. So nice to celebrate in front of the fans - you could see the emotions in their faces!
“Mine and Nick’s celebration - we started this when he scored goals and we’ve kept it going since!”
Bruno Guimaraes is a happy chappy after back-to-back wins
Thiaw went a step further, commenting directly on Bruno Guimaraes' post-match Instagram post and calling his captain a 'Magician'.
Bruno mentioned the wins over Burnley and Palace as the ideal end and start to the respective years.
"We finished 2025 in the best possible way and started 2026 even better! Happy with the three points and another goal. We’re giving everything we have to achieve our objectives this year. Howay the lads! 3️⃣9️⃣🖤🤍"
