Ludicrous Eddie Howe rumour surfaces as Newcastle United manager linked with most bonkers job in football
There is a vocal minority of Newcastle United fans who are ready to see change in the dugout after a less-than-stellar first half of this season.
Eddie Howe's job is secure; however, the board are not thought to be even contemplating the idea of having a discussion about potentially thinking about letting Eddie Howe go.
The 48-year-old has worked miracles at the club in his four years here. He saved us from certain relegation, got us into two domestic cup finals, one of which we won, and got us into the Champions League twice, all while suffering through injury crises, PSR struggles and an ever-changing boardroom.
For us, Eddie Howe has banked a ton of credit. He's not bulletproof by any means, nobody is, but he's wearing some military grade kevlar.
Chelsea reportedly have Eddie Howe on their managerial shortlist
As much as we think the club are more than happy to stick with Howe, we believe that Howe is more than happy to stick with the club, which is why the rumour regarding Chelsea having Eddie Howe on their manager shortlist is absolute madness.
Football Insider (yes, we know) is reporting that Chelsea have the Toon boss on their managerial shortlist, but they question whether Eddie Howe would leave Newcastle mid-season for a position with a notoriously short shelf life.
Eddie Howe is revered on Tyneside, has the key to the city of Newcastle, knows his job is safe and has achieved things that no manager has done in 70 years. Why on earth would he even contemplate leaving? He didn't leave us for the England job; he's not going to go to the club that changes managers bi-weekly.
Surely Eddie Howe's not that mental?
Sure, there's the appeal of being able to buy anyone he wants as Chelsea seems to be able to print money, but beyond that, what's the appeal, currently?
We know it's just a story for the sake of it from Football Insider, but the fact that it is even being considered as a possibility is crazy to us.
Whatever your current feelings on Eddie Howe, you have to admit, he'd be mental to leave us for Chelsea ... right?
