Newcastle United battered a shockingly poor Tottenham Hotspur side in their own backyard last night and should have had more than just a one-goal lead to show for their efforts.

The scoreline was more emblematic of Newcastle's poor form in front of goal than it was the direction of the match last night.

It wasn't so much that Newcastle were amazing, either; a lot of it was down to just how poor Spurs were. Newcastle were camped out in their half for most of the game, except for an early spell in the second half, where Newcastle were still waking up from their half-time nap.

That was when Spurs grabbed their goal, and that woke Newcastle up, who responded in kind by restoring their lead, which proved to be enough to win the game.

Tottenham Hotspur wasted no time sacking Thomas Frank after defeat to Newcastle.

At full time, the boos inside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium were deafening as the Spurs fans had clearly seen enough, and so too have the Spurs board.

This morning, it was announced that Thomas Frank has been sacked by Tottenham after just eight months in charge.

A last-minute equaliser for Manchester United last night stopped Spurs from being just three points above the relegation zone, but a five point gap was clearly uncomfortable enough for those in charge.

We hope Thomas Frank bounces back from this

We do feel sorry for Thomas Frank, though. He was missing 11 players last night, and they weren't just players on the fringes of the first team; most of them would be first-team starters.

A bit like how we feel about Eddie Howe, we're not sure what bringing in a new manager can realistically change. They won't magically heal the injured players; it's purely a gamble now that they can have that Michael Carrick effect and inspire the players.

Hopefully, Thomas Frank bounces back and finds a top job again as we do have a lot of time for him.
