It has been a tough 12 months for former Newcastle United man Lloyd Kelly after his career on Tyneside was over before it even began.

Last summer, Lloyd Kelly's contract at Bournemouth was set to expire, and Eddie Howe offered the left-back a contract to join him once again at Newcastle after Howe had already brought him to Bournemouth.

Newcastle fans expected Kelly to drop straight into the first team after Dan Burn had struggled to adapt at left-back and Matt Targett continued to be absent.

However, after some impressive performances towards the end of the previous season, Lewis Hall was given the left-back spot, with Kelly left to fight for his place in training.

Crystal Palace are keen on Lloyd Kelly according to report in Italy

Lloyd Kelly could be offered a return to the Premier League

Lloyd Kelly had a few opportunities in the first team, but he never looked like a good fit, and when the January transfer window came along, Italian giants Juventus came in with an offer of a loan with an obligation to buy, and Kelly moved to Italy.

The obligation to buy has been triggered and the deal has been done, but as reported recently, Juventus have placed Kelly straight on the transfer list after a string of poor performances.

It has to be pretty soul-shattering for Kelly, but there is hope as a report from Il Bianconero has claimed that Crystal Palace could be keen to offer him a route back to the Premier League.

What are Crystal Palace's recruitment team doing?

Palace have also been linked with an interest in Newcastle's Matt Targett, with a suggestion that Newcastle could use him as a makeweight in a deal for centre-back Marc Guehi.

With the Eagles chasing Targett and Kelly, it makes you wonder if the people Dougie Freedman left in charge of recruitment when he left have ever watched a game of football before.

Hopefully, Palace opt for Targett and we can use him in the deal for Marc Guehi, solving two problems in one deal, but we do also hope that things work out better for Lloyd Kelly after such a tough year.
