Newcastle United have made their intentions clear to Liverpool already this summer that Alexander Isak is not for sale; however, the Premier League champions aren't giving up just yet.

The Magpies rebuffed an informal approach earlier in the transfer window as Liverpool proposed a bid of £120 million.

Now, today, The Athletic's David Ornstein has reported that Newcastle received an official approach from Liverpool, which they have also rejected.

Following on the back of that, Sky Sports' Keith Downie has reported that Liverpool's bid was worth £110 million plus add-ons, believed to take the fee to the proposed £120 million mark.

Liverpool are now preparing a second bid for Alexander Isak

Keith Downie has also reported that Liverpool are now preparing a second, improved bid for Isak.

"We expect Liverpool to come back in with a second formal offer; they're preparing that formal offer as we speak. But Newcastle is standing firm, rejecting the first one.

"This could be the biggest transfer of the summer. It would be a Premier League record if Liverpool were to get their man."

Newcastle United fans have got plenty more ups and downs to contend with

We expect that it is going to take something significant to get Newcastle to budge, having set the price at £150 million, and if they're starting at £110 million, there's still some way to go after Newcastle had already told them that £120 million wouldn't be enough.

One thing is certain: we've got many more days of this saga to go, so buckle up and get ready for a bumpy ride.

In terms of what we believe will happen ... at this point, we have absolutely no idea. I've personally been positive he'll stay, positive he'll leave, understanding of his request, and fuming about his attitude. Now I'm just 100% confused.
