'Likely to go': Newcastle United target's teammate expects friend to move amid 'tantalising' claim

Newcastle United have plenty of names on their shopping list heading into this summer transfer window, but the priority target is believed to be Brentford's Bryan Mbeumo.

It has long been speculated, going back to the start of the campaign, that Newcastle had their eyes firmly fixed on Bryan Mbeumo, and after having such a fantastic season at Brentford, it's believed that he is nailed on to be the Magpies' priority target.

At the start of the season, a figure of £50 million was mooted for the winger, but after racking up 18 goals and seven assists in the Premier League this season, that figure may have risen as Brentford will not want to lose him for a penny less than he's worth.

Bryan Mbeumo has been wanting a new challenge for a year or so

It is becoming increasingly clear that Mbeumo will move on from the Bees this summer, though, after he said earlier in the season that he wanted a new challenge, as reported by The Chronicle.

“I have spent five years at Brentford, at a club that has allowed me to grow and pass a milestone, but yes, I would like to play in the biggest competitions, at the best clubs. It is tantalising to see some big clubs interested in me. We will see."

He's certainly done a good job of putting himself in the shop window, which does mean that Newcastle could face some stiff competition for his signature this summer.

Christian Norgaard is bracing himself to lose two big Brentford players

Brentford's Christian Norgaard has recently admitted to Sky Sports that he expected Bryan Mbeumo to leave this summer and potentially Yoane Wissa too, which should be good news for Newcastle in terms of being able to sign Mbeumo, and hopefully Wissa goes abroad as he loves scoring against us.

"I am calm with what might happen with Bryan [Mbeumo] and [Yoane] Wissa because a lot of questions are asked about them and you can almost feel the worries around the place when you talk about them maybe leaving us.

"I think Bryan is likely to go, I don't know with Wissa yet, everyone is hoping he might stay.

"Either way, I am happy with the season they have both had because they deserve it."
