Lewis Hall was on track to scoop up Newcastle United's Player of the Year award with his performances last season.
The young left-back had been frustrated in his first season on Tyneside while on loan from Chelsea as first-team opportunities were few and far between until the back-end of the season.
Eddie Howe started to introduce Hall into the team more and more as the season wound down, and then when the new season got underway last year, with Hall now a permanent squad member following his £28 million move, he found himself in the starting lineup and taking the opportunity with both hands.
Some of Hall's performances earned him a ton of praise and an England call-up before he was sidelined in March after undergoing surgery on a broken foot. Hall then missed the final 11 Premier League games of the season, as well as having to sit out the Carabao Cup final.
Having already played in 34 games before he was sidelined, Hall was a huge part of Newcastle's season and was probably the team's most consistent player alongside Dan Burn.
Now, the 20-year-old is stepping up his recovery from surgery and is expected to start training with the ball again in the coming days.
Speaking to the official NUFC website about his recovery, Hall reflected on the Carabao Cup final and how he wasn't able to be a part of it.
For Hall, it wasn't just that he wasn't playing, but that he couldn't be there to celebrate with his teammates.
"The first few weeks especially were incredibly hard, with the final and stuff like that," he added. "I played in all the games beforehand, and to miss that final; I was obviously buzzing for the club, for everyone, but to not be there to celebrate... it's not so much that I wasn't on the pitch, but to not be there to celebrate, that was probably the lowest point I've had in a long time. I was sat at home watching. That was difficult."
The former Chelsea man is determined to come back from his injury stronger and better than ever, and if he does that, then he can be a big part of helping Newcastle have an even more successful campaign next season.
