Eddie Howe has some huge calls to make with his starting lineup as Newcastle United face Marseille in the Champions League.

Kieran Trippier is injured, leaving Howe with a big call to make at right back. Tino Livramento was outstanding on Saturday, but he's just come back from a seven-week injury layoff and it may be too much to ask for him to play again so soon.

Similarly, Lewis Hall was phenomenal on Saturday but had to come off with cramp with 15 minutes left to play, and after a similarly lengthy layoff, it's a big risk to ask him to go again. However, Hall has back-up with Dan Burn, who had to miss the game against Manchester City due to serving a one-match suspension.

The other big decision is whether to reinstate Anthony Gordon to the starting XI after he missed out on Saturday. We feel it would be a harsh call to drop Harvey Barnes after his two goals against City, but it's also the kind of thing Eddie Howe would do.

Our predicted XI to face Marseille

Goalkeeper

Nick Pope - Made some big saves on Saturday against City, redeeming himself for the previous performances.

Defenders

Tino Livramento - Emil Krafth could start, but Tino played the full game on Saturday and didn't look fazed at all.

Malick Thiaw - There's just no way the German is dropped unless he's injured.

Sven Botman - It's 50/50 whether he starts over Fabian Schar, but we're giving the Dutchman the edge. Just.

Dan Burn - We feel Big Dan Burn will start the game with Lewis Hall to replace him later on. Purely a managing fitness move.

Midfielders

Bruno Guimaraes (c) - A true captain's display on Saturday with two assists to his name. He loves the Champions League too.

Sandro Tonali - No words necessary.

Joelinton - Had a fantastic game on Saturday. Recovering his form at the right time.

Forwards

Jacob Murphy - Put in some amazing crosses on Saturday, was very unlucky not to notch an assist. More of the same, please.

Nick Woltemade - Had three huge chances on Saturday but was thwarted by Gianluigi Donnarumma. If he can get into those positions again, though, he'll score plenty of goals.

Harvey Barnes - Even if Anthony Gordon is fully fit again, which we doubt, Harvey Barnes earned this place in the starting lineup on Saturday.

Having the likes of Gordon and Hall on the bench is massive for Eddie Howe as both can massively change the game if needed.
