The links between Newcastle United and Arsenal's Emile Smith Rowe aren't going away.

Newcastle have been consistently linked with the out-of-favour 23-year-old Arsenal man, with several media outlets suggesting that Eddie Howe will make a move for Emile Smith Rowe in January.

Smith Rowe seems to have fallen out of favour under Mikel Arteta and has made just two Premier League appearances for the Gunners this season as a late substitute.

The England international is obviously frustrated by his lack of game time and has lost his place in Gareth Southgate's squad as a result. It's with all this in mind that Smith Rowe is hotly tipped with a January move.

If Newcastle were to make a move you'd imagine it would be a loan move with maybe an obligation to buy in the Summer.

However, transfer insider Fabrizio Romano isn't sure where the rumours are coming from, saying in his Daily Briefing for Caught Offside:

“Emile Smith Rowe – This is a name that keeps coming up, but again I’m not aware of any concrete talk at this stage with Newcastle, let’s see closer to the January window.

“As I always mentioned, Newcastle are not advancing on any signing now as it’s crucial for them to understand if they will be in UCL in the second part of the season before moving.”

Fabrizio Romano usually has his finger on the pulse so I'm inclined to believe him when he says there's been no movement from Newcastle's side just yet.

It makes sense that Newcastle would rather wait and see if they're still fighting for the Champions League before making any moves in the transfer window.
