England take on Finland in the Nations League this evening - Kick-off is at 7:45pm and three Newcastle United players will be hoping to take part in the game.
Lee Carsley didn't hesitate to start Anthony Gordon on Saturday against Ireland after the pair won the U21 European Championships together in 2023. It seems Carsley knows all too well what Gordon can deliver on the pitch.
Gordon was instrumental in England's attacking play on Saturday with former Magpie Andros Townsend singling him out for praise on a few occasions.
The Athletic claims that as a result of his performance over 77 minutes on Saturday, Gordon will once again be part of England's three-pronged attack along with Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka.
The report also suggests that Angel Gomes could make his first start for the Three Lions as one of the four debutants called up by Carsley looks set to get the nod from the start.
That leaves the other three of alleged Newcastle targets Noni Madueke and Morgan Gibbs-White as well as Newcastle's own Tino Livramento once again hoping to be given the call from the bench.
We really hope that Tino is given his debut at some point tonight, but at the same time, he's far less likely to get injured sitting on the bench, so how selfish do we want to be here?
England made things look relatively easy against Ireland on Saturday, at least in the first half, and a lot of that was down to Gordon's desire to run at defenders.
Gordon's slow start to the season for Newcastle is likely down to still having a fair bit of summer rust to shake off, so more minutes on the pitch should benefit Eddie Howe, again, as long as he can remain injury-free.
It's always a worry when people start to get a bit nervous about a player's skill and/or pace and just resort to kicking lumps out of them. Jack Grealish draws so many fouls because of his ability, and the fact that he looks like someone it would be fun to just punt into the sea, and Gordon has those very same qualities, so it's only a matter of time before he starts getting hoofed for a living.
