Newcastle United finally have their huge summer signing (of last year) available to them once again after Sandro Tonali served his 10-month ban for betting breaches.

Not only does that mean that Newcastle can once again field their £55 million signing from AC Milan, but Italy can once again call upon him for international duty.

Italy boss Luciano Spalletti wasted no time in doing just that despite the fact that Tonali had just an hour of competitive football under his belt when he got the call.

Spalletti went with Tonali from the start as Italy took on France at the weekend and the Newcastle United midfield maestro was extremely influential in Italy's 3-1 victory.

Sandro Tonali has made the difference for Italy

Fabio Capello believes Tonali was what was missing at Euro 2024

Tonali laid on an eye-wateringly beautiful assist for Federico Dimarco's equalising goal before bossing the midfield for the full 90 minutes.

Speaking after the game one-time England boss Fabio Capello spoke to Gazetta dello Sport and highlighted Sandro Tonali as the missing ingredient in Italy's poor Euro 2024 showing.

“The return of Sandro Tonali was crucial.

“With him, Frattesi and Ricci, the midfield is more dynamic.

“We needed Sandro Tonali at the Euros because Jorginho lacked the required intensity.”

Tonali will likely be in action tonight as Italy take on Israel

Newcastle have already noted the difference having Tonali back in the side makes and Italy are also finding out how much they missed him too.

Israel are tonight's opponent as Italy continues their Nations League adventures and we're sure that after Friday's game, Tonali will be part of things tonight.

Let's just hope he comes through it all unscathed and is ready to go for his club on Sunday as Newcastle take on Wolverhampton Wanderers.
