Kevin Nolan was a key figure for Newcastle United in the Mike Ashley days, taking over as captain and pulling the club's collective socks up.

Nolan was also the positive influence Andy Carroll needed at the time as the academy graduate started to go off the rails. Nolan took Carroll in and helped put him back on the straight and narrow.

Unfortunately for Newcastle, Mike Ashley wasn't a fan of Nolan's because he had too much influence on the players and he felt that he, and a group of other senior players wielded too much power and he begun to remove them from the club.

Now, Kevin Nolan has spoken about how his Newcastle career came to an end and the issues it caused with his family.

Kevin Nolan had a full blown argument with his wife after agreeing a move away

Nolan appeared on West Ham Fan TV and shared the story of the huge argument that ensued when he informed his wife of his impending move to London.

"I had been with her since I was 14,. My wife had moved with me from Liverpool to Newcastle. I just went, 'By the way, 'I've signed for Newcastle. I'll see you in a couple of days' and drove up to Newcastle.

"It took her three months to find a house up there. We found a house, got settled and we're in Dubai. I've now got a phone call saying, 'Will you come to West Ham?'

"I haven't even gone, 'What do you reckon about West Ham, love?' I've just said, 'Sound, yeah, I'm coming.'

"Then I've got off the phone and she's gone to me, 'What was that about?' I've gone, 'I'm just about to sign for West Ham'. She said, 'You're not!'

"Now me and her are having a full-blown argument in Dubai in front of Harps, his missus and our kids and my daughter's gone, 'Daddy, but I like it in Newcastle.' I'm going, 'Well, you're going to have to like it in London now.'"

Newcastle has excellent form for etching itself on players' hearts

Always speak to the missus before agreeing anything, Kev. It's a rookie mistake and you hate to see it.

We were gutted to see Nolan go as he was one of the players who genuinely cared and genuinely tried for the team at a time when passion was at a premium.

This story once again goes to show just how much this club gets under the skin of the people who embrace it. It's truly a one of a kind club.
