Newcastle United have had two bids rejected for Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Jorgen Strand Larsen this week, with a third bid expected to have gone in by now.

However, while we were all waiting for news of the third bid, news broke that Newcastle had agreed a fee with Bundesliga side Stuttgart for German U21 superstar Nick Woltemade, who is on his way to Tyneside for a medical.

Outlets disagree on the fee, but it looks set to break the club record £63 million Newcastle paid for Alexander Isak, which is sweet irony. The fee is thought to be between £65 million and £75 million.

There has been no update on Jorgen Strand Larsen since the Woltemade news broke, and Keith Downie has explained why.

Yoane Wissa, as backup for Nick Woltemade, makes perfect sense

According to Downie, Newcastle feel Strand Larsen and Woltemade are too similar and will therefore move away from signing the Norwegian, which will no doubt please Wolves, who have insisted he's not for sale.

🚨 Newcastle still want to sign Yoane Wissa from Brentford — to play alongside Nick Woltemade.

(the dominoes are falling…)

Newcastle still remain hopeful of signing Yoane Wissa from Brentford before Monday's deadline, and while we have our reservations about his conduct having 'done an Isak' this summer to try and force the move, we do feel that he'd be the ideal back-up for Woltemade.

We highly doubt that the 23-year-old will hit the ground running in the Premier League, so someone like Yoane Wissa, a proven Premier League goal scorer, being there to ease the burden while Woltemade adapts makes perfect sense.

This transfer window may turn out to be alright after all

Brentford still want to find a replacement for Wissa before they'll allow him to leave, but should Newcastle get the right signals, we'd expect movement on that one over the weekend.

Of course, if Newcastle acquire Woltemade and Wissa, that means that Alexander Isak will almost inevitably leave the club before Monday's 7pm deadline.

Ignoring how every deal came about and the ups and downs, the end result of this window could end up being pretty magnificent for Newcastle. Aaron Ramsdale, Malick Thiaw, Jacob Ramsey, Anthony Elanga, Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa through the door. That's a marked improvement over last season's squad, even if we do lose Alexander Isak.
