Keith Downie reveals Newcastle United star to miss next three weeks through injury after recent speculation
Newcastle United fans were waiting for the team sheet to drop on Saturday evening before the Everton game to see who was starting between the posts.
There had been a lot of speculation over whether or not Eddie Howe would have the stones to drop Nick Pope after a string of mistakes.
When the team was announced, Pope's name was absent from the team sheet entirely, with the club posting on X that Pope had suffered an injury.
It all seemed a bit too convenient, but Howe stuck with that story when speaking to Sky Sports on the night, saying that he'd pulled up with a groin issue in training on Friday.
Nick Pope's injury may just have been legitimate after all
It now looks as though that convenient injury was exactly that as Keith Downie has posted on X that Pope is set to miss three weeks of action.
🚨 EXCL: Nick Pope will miss the next three weeks of action with a groin injury.
🧤 The Newcastle goalkeeper was given the news from a specialist after picking up an injury in training on Friday.
❌ That means the 33-year-old will miss the next 6 games, with a likely return date of Man United away on Boxing Day.
🏴 Fellow England international Aaron Ramsdale is set to carry on in the sticks in Pope’s absence.
Ramsdale will face Tottenham for the second time this season
Aaron Ramsdale filled in to good effect at Everton on Saturday, although he was very rarely called into action.
We expect that tonight, Tottenham will likely give Ramsdale a bit more to do, and we'll get a good look at how he is.
Ramsdale was, of course, in goal when the two sides met in the Carabao Cup at the end of October, when Newcastle came away 2-0 winners.
