The January transfer window only closed last night and we're already stressed about what the summer window might bring for Newcastle United.

Monday's drama all centred around Sandro Tonali after a story broke suggesting he was making a move to Arsenal on deadline day.

That thankfully turned out to be a load of rubbish, but it started a conversation around the Italian's future at the club, and the signs aren't positive.

Eddie Howe claimed he has so little control over transfer decisions that he can't say that Tonali will definitely stay, Tonali's agent seems to be hatching a plan too, so we get the feeling we're going to have a fight over our midfield maestro all summer.

Newcastle could lose three massive players this summer

Tino Livramento is being tracked by Manchester City, and the England full-back's decision to hold off contract talks until the end of the season makes us feel like he's weighing up his options, and that's likely going to be bad news for the Magpies.

Now, Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie has once again reiterated that he feels record transfer Nick Woltemade may have a short Newcastle United career, saying on his YouTube channel that the German could leave before next season.

"I'm not sure if Nick Woltemade was (good value) at £69 million. He looks a good player. Looks like he's got real assets. Does he have the assets that Newcastle need in the way they play? No. So, I feel, and I've said this a couple of times in the channel, that signing was probably a mistake as well. Will Nick Woltemade be a Newcastle player next season? I would suggest there's a question mark over that. I think if someone came in and offered the club, you know, close to what they paid for him, I think it's a chance Woltemade could go in the summer because, you know, I think on Saturday against Liverpool, Anthony Gordon starting through the middle ahead of both Yoane Wissa and Nick Woltemade told his own story."

Keith Downie may have a good point about Nick Woltemade

We absolutely see the point that Downie is making. Newcastle and Woltemade just haven't gelled. Either the team needs to change its playing style or Big Nick needs to change his, and there are pros and cons to both of those scenarios. It may be more sensible to go our separate ways.

What I do think will be an issue, however, is recouping anywhere near enough of that £69 million to make it a worthwhile transaction, especially if Woltemade continues to struggle this season.

Nobody is going to want to spend over £60 million on a misfiring striker whose confidence will be in the toilet. Although Crystal Palace just spent £48 million on Jorgen Strand Larsen who couldn't hit a barn door this season, so there is a possibility.
