We managed to make it through the summer transfer window without the Sandro Tonali rumours getting too out of control, which was a blessing given what we had to deal with regarding Alexander Isak.

Heading into the summer, the rumours would not stop when it came to the idea of Newcastle United's midfield maestro returning to Italy after a stunning season for the Magpies.

Ever since Tonali arrived on Tyneside, the Italian media have been desperate to bring him home, making claims that he was homesick pretty much as soon as he rocked up for his first day of training.

A return to AC Milan was mooted several times, but the prevailing story was a switch to Juventus, despite it being pretty common knowledge that The Old Lady simply doesn't have the money to pull off such a move.

Sandro is being linked to Italy again

Juventus want to sign Sandro Tonali next summer

The transfer window has now closed, and immediately, the Italian media, namely Calciomercato in this case, are back to stoking the fires.

Their claim is that getting Dusan Vlahovic off the wage bill will free up the funds to bring in Tonali, and that's Juventus' 'big dream' next summer.

The fact that Vlahovic is likely to leave on a free, the money would only come from freeing up the wage bill of €12 million (£12 million) a year, we don't see how that's going to fund a transfer and Tonali's wages.

Tonali will soon have a Geordie baby

It looks as though we're in for another year of Italian journalists clutching at straws to find ways to link Sandro back to Serie A.

Let's just hope our Italian hero can block out the noise as well as he did last year when there were zero indications that he wanted to return home.

With a baby on the way, Tonali is going to have a Geordie bairn of his own, and we've seen how much that rooted Bruno Guimaraes to the area, perhaps it will do the same for Sandro.
