Journalists name Newcastle United star as England's 'next big name' after latest Nations League games

For the first time in 27 years, Newcastle United had three players in the England starting lineup as they took on Ireland at Wembley on Sunday night.

Not only were there three Newcastle players in the side, they all played hugely important roles in the 5-0 win with Tino Livramento providing an assist for Anthony Gordon's first senior England goal.

Meanwhile, Lewis Hall, fresh off playing the second 45 minutes against Greece, was handed a full 90 minutes and built upon his impressive midweek display.

Left-back is a huge problem area for England with so few left-footed options for the position and Lewis Hall was well aware that a good display could put him in the running to be handed the position going forward.

The Mirror assembled their football journalists to ask who they see as the next big thing for England and five out of eight of them named Lewis Hall as the future of England.

Not just that, though, but Tino Livramento and Anthony Gordon also got mentioned, which would suggest that seven of eight of them picked Newcastle players, but a couple of them picked two players because following instructions is just too hard for some people.

Essentially, what The Mirror are saying is that the future of England is Newcastle United, and we're here for it.

Lewis Hall has been compared to Ashley Cole

Thomas Tuchel is already familiar with Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento so they will feel confident that as long as they keep delivering for Newcastle they should get the nod, whereas Anthony Gordon is nailing down that left-wing role with his performances.

Lewis Hall has impressed a lot of people by stepping into that problem area at 20 years old and looking like he was born for the role.

One journalist, John Cross, even compared Hall to Ashley Cole which is about as high as praise gets for an English left-back. The future is black and white.
