Journalist shares update on Tino Livramento after Newcastle United full-back was stretchered off against Arsenal
It was a bad day at the office for Newcastle United on Sunday as the Magpies threw away a one-goal lead to ultimately lose 1-2 on their home turf as Arsenal scored two late goals.
Adding insult to injury - actually, in this case adding injury to insult - Tino Livramento was carried off the St James' Park turf on a stretcher following an aerial challenge with William Saliba, which saw him land awkwardly after taking a heavy impact to the knee.
Before joining Newcastle, Livramento had spent about a year on the sidelines with an ACL injury and that fear of a recurrence washed over everyone inside St James' Park when the England star started clutching his knee.
It's still too early to say how long Livramento is going to be out for, but early signs suggest it's not an ACL injury, which is great news.
Luke Edwards says Tino Livramento has not suffered another ACL injury
Journalist Luke Edwards was quick to relay that news on X on Sunday.
"It doesn’t sound like Tino Livramento has suffered another ACL injury, which is a relief. Will know more later this week, but he’s likely to be out for a while whatever it is. Huge loss #nufc"
Eddie Howe only confirmed it was a knee injury after the game, citing that his absence will be a big blow for the team.
If it's not an ACL injury, Livramento could be back in action very soon
X account @physioscout gave their analysis of the injury, too, based on what they saw, and they feel it's more likely a MCL (Medial Collateral Ligament) injury, which is akin to a sprain.
They suggest a layoff of anywhere from seven days to six weeks, depending on severity, but it's worth remembering that this is all conjecture based on seeing the injury happen on TV.
We will get the scan results later this week, and we'll get an update from Eddie Howe in due course. Fingers crossed it's not as bad as it first looked and that it's definitely not an ACL injury.
