As things stand Newcastle United look to be about to add a much-needed striker to their ranks.

Talks are ongoing with Everton over the transfer of England striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin with Newcastle hoping to have the deal tied up before the end of the month.

Everton will be pushing for a quick deal to get the money in before the PSR deadline on 30th June, but the price is still to be agreed with Everton asking £37million according to The Times.

While it's all going swimmingly right now in terms of a clear run at Calvert-Lewin, one journalist has claimed that may not remain the case.

Newcastle fans will be getting sick of seeing Chelsea's name

Freelance journalist Paul Brown has taken to X to share that he believes Chelsea could hijack Newcastle's bid for the 27-year-old.

"Newcastle talks re Calvert-Lewin have been going on for some time. I wrote about their interest, and confidence in signing him, weeks ago. But Chelsea are one to watch here also. Interested but yet to take it further so far. A sale before June 30 makes sense for Everton."

Chelsea have already swooped in to hijack one Newcastle transfer this summer by landing Tosin Adarabioyo when he looked destined for the Toon.

Chelsea have been side-by-side with Newcastle at every transfer rumour

Almost every player Newcastle have been linked with this summer has also seemed to be linked with Chelsea, it's as if they've just found our scouting reports and are following them blindly with no ideas of their own.

We aren't sure how or where Dominic Calvert-Lewin even fits at Chelsea, and we do doubt there's much to this rumour, but at the same time, we wouldn't be at all surprised if they did hijack the deal as it's what they are good at.

How many players does one club need, exactly? I still need to be sold on the DCL move, but this might have just tipped it. Swollocks to Chelsea.
