Newcastle United are currently leading the way in the race for £60 million-rated Marc Guehi.

Reports have suggested that Newcastle have opened talks with Crystal Palace for their star England defender Marc Guehi.

The 24-year-old has been on Newcastle's wish list all summer but talks over a move barely got beyond a general acknowledgement that Newcastle had him on their list until Friday.

Suddenly it came out that Newcastle and Crystal Palace were in talks and there was potential that Guehi was keen.

Alex Crook things there could be a bidding war for Guehi

While nothing has changed in that regard, journalists are now speaking up about what they've been told regarding the deal.

The lastest being Alex Crook who said on TalkSPORT that he believes Guehi is open to a move to Newcastle but he also wondered if other clubs could now enter the race.

“I think Palace were always braced for interest in Guehi, even before he had such a good tournament in Germany with England.

“Newcastle at the moment the most serious suitors, they’re the ones who have opened talks. It’s going to take big money, you’re talking well north of £60m. From what I’m told Guehi is open to the move to St James’ Park.

“But I wonder if now this story is out in the media I do wonder if bigger clubs come to the party and Palace find themselves involved in some sort of bidding war.”

There seems to be confidence that Newcastle will get this one done

There have been a few other clubs said to have been interested in Guehi but most of them have since signed players for that position.

Newcastle's biggest threat is likely to be Liverpool, but they seem to be concentrating on finding a new club for Joe Gomez so it wouldn't make sense for them to bring in another big money centre-back when they're still trying to get one off their books.

There is a strange air of confidence around this Marc Guehi transfer. One that hasn't really been felt all summer.
