Joelinton still lost for words after Sunday's EFL Cup win as Newcastle United midfielder gears up to play for Brazil

Newcastle United's midfield beast Joelinton was recalled to the Brazil squad a few days before he stepped out at Wembley for Newcastle United.

The 28-year-old has had a spell out of the national side as Brazil struggle to find their identity again, but Joelinton has been working hard for Newcastle and was a huge part of their Carabao Cup success on Sunday.

He and Bruno Guimaraes reportedly pulled an all-nighter on Sunday and headed off to link up with their Brazilian teammates without having had any sleep.

Knowing that they'd have the flight to catch up on some kip, we can't say we blame them one bit.

Now that the pair are back home, Joelinton has been speaking to Brazilian outlet GE Globo where he admitted he's still gobsmacked.

“I have no words to describe that everything is going is through in my head at this moment. It’s a whirlwind of feelings, emotions, things I can’t explain. A gigantic title, which will be scored in Newcastle history.

“I came to the club in 2019, thinking precisely of moments like this. We have a huge project at the club, with a winning ambition, and gradually we are going in that direction. We arrived in the Champions League recently, two seasons ago we were runners-up of the League Cup, and now we have reached this title.”

Joey took the time to acknowledge the fans who have taken him to their hearts after the most amazing turnaround in football.

“I just have to thank all that affection this crowd has for me since I arrived.

“I try every game to match this on the field, with a lot of desire and delivery. This is the moment of Newcastle and the whole city. Let’s not stop here. That was a first achievement. We will follow in this footprint ambitious to mark our name in the history of the club.”
