Newcastle United and Chelsea put on a superb show for the neutrals at St James' Park on Saturday afternoon, playing out a hugely entertaining 2-2 draw.

Both sets of fans probably think their team did enough to win it, but it's probably Newcastle fans who will feel the most aggrieved after throwing away a two-goal lead, missing so many clear-cut chances and having a blatant penalty waved away by the referee and VAR.

However, after weeks of negativity, we have plenty of positives to take from this game, particularly the first half.

Newcastle came out of the traps like greyhounds with Anthony Gordon seemingly desperate to prove himself, and prove himself he did. Two assists and endless running for the winger contributed to his best performance in months.

Joe Cole compared Lewis Miley's defending to one of the best defenders ever

Nick Woltemade grabbed two goals and missed two huge opportunities as well in a game that was all about his redemption arc following his own goal last week.

Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes never stopped either, even in the second half when Newcastle weren't as good, the two main men in midfield were desperate to get the Mags back on the front foot.

However, it was Lewis Miley who stole the show. Playing as right-back again, Miley looked like a brick wall in defence, with Joe Cole likening him to Paolo Maldini in commentary.

Lewis Miley has been phenomenal at right-back

It may have been hyperbole in the moment, but that's how good Miley was, and that was recognised when Ally McCoist named him as his Player of the Match.

We are huge fans of Miley, as we're sure most Newcastle fans are, but we never expected his transition into right back to be so successful so quickly.

All the best players are versatile, and Miley is proving to be just that. What a player we have on our hands with that little baby-faced machine.
