Jacob Murphy says Newcastle United players must 'help each other' during this transitional phase
Newcastle United have just two wins to their name this season so far, and they have come against the Premier League's bottom club and a League One side.
For all the Magpies haven't necessarily played poorly, in fact, in most cases, they've played very well and would have been worthy winners, there's just a lack of spark up top that's causing an issue.
Despite putting four goals past Bradford City last week, there still seems to be a lack of ideas up front, which clearly stems from the change of striker.
Jacob Murphy had developed an almost telepathic relationship with Alexander Isak before he left, and now Murphy or any of the other wingers need to find that kind of connection with Nick Woltemade and/or Yoane Wissa to bring the goals back to the side.
Jacob Murphy says replacing Alexander Isak won't be an 'overnight fix'
As Murphy himself has said in an interview with beIN Sport (via The Chronicle), replacing Isak isn't going to be an overnight fix for the Magpies.
"Obviously, we lost our nine and we've gained two very good nines, so you know, it's gonna take a while, but it's going to take a bit of time for everyone to gel together, find new ways to go that work for us and complement each other's playing styles and stuff.
"You know, it's not an overnight fix, it's gonna take a little bit of time. But yeah, you know, we're in a good place right now, you know, we're in the game.
"A lot of the time, and it's now just that final ball, that last bit of cutting edge in front of goal, and, yeah, that'll turn these draws into wins, and then everyone's looking at these performances a lot differently.
"Unfortunately, we have had Wissa unfit at the moment.
"But yeah, Nick, very, very intelligent footballer. You know, he likes to come and link play, really clinical in the box as well. So, yeah, we now need to kind of come up with a way that suits us all., to help each other get goals."
Murphy already has one assist for the new striker
Jacob Murphy has already provided Nick Woltemade with one goal after the big German got on the end of an inch-perfect Murphy cross to nod home his first goal for the club.
Eddie Howe still hasn't managed to settle on a starting winger down the right as he keeps switching between Murphy and Anthony Elanga.
Everything just feels a bit experimental right now as Howe works out what his best eleven is and how they all gel together. It's going to take time, and there's still Yoane Wissa and Jacob Ramsey to add to the equation.
