'Ive never seen this before': Bruno Guimaraes laughs at Newcastle United's £69m new signing after what he did on Saturday
Bruno Guimaraes was on duty to face the media ahead of Newcastle United's Champions League opener against Barcelona.
As per the Champions League rules, the manager and a player must face the media ahead of the game, and captain Bruno was selected to be first up in this Champions League campaign.
Our captain switched effortlessly between English and Spanish as he faced the media in the live-stream on the official website, with questions posed from both camps on Wednesday afternoon.
As someone who barely speaks English, it was amazing to see someone speaking two languages effortlessly when neither was his native tongue.
Bruno Guimaraes has a cheeky dig at Nick Woltemade in pre-Barca press conference
Bruno was asked for his early impressions on his new teammate Nick Woltemade after the club-record £69 million signing made his Newcastle United debut on Saturday, with the captain joking about his reason for being subbed off.
"I like him a lot, he's impressed me in training as well. He's very young and we've seen he's not used to the Premier League pace, getting cramps after 45 minutes - I've never seen this before! (laughing).
"I'm very happy he scored on his debut - a moment to remember for him. I hope it continues but he's showing his qualities in training."
Nick Woltemade will have to get used to the Premier League a lot quicker than planned
Woltemade's body giving up on him after about an hour in his debut was the only thing we really had to complain about from his first outing in the black and white.
Ideally, the 23-year-old would have been slowly integrated into the first team, but the injury to Yoane Wissa accelerated things for the German, and the pace and strength in the Premier League is a lot different to the Bundesliga, and he learnt that the hard way.
That stamina will come in tim,e and we're sure he'll already be better equipped to face a full 90 minutes tomorrow night.
