Juventus are said to be bracing themselves for a bid from the Premier League for a player who has long been linked with a move to Newcastle United.

All last summer, Federico Chiesa was linked with following Sandro Tonali from Italy to Tyneside, but the Italian winger remained where he was for another season.

Now Correire dello Sport (via Football Italia) has reported that Juventus are expecting a bid from a Premier League club with Newcastle the most likely candidate.

However, Liverpool are also said to be interested in Chiesa, so the bid could be coming from them.

Chiesa currently plays predominantly on the left

Chiesa is predominantly a left winger but can play out on the right, which does still put this one in the realms of possibility, although we expect that we'd be more interested in bringing in an out-and-out right winger given that that's the area we need to improve.

That being said, the 26-year-old Italy international is a superb talent and Newcastle could definitely do with bringing in somebody of his calibre.

Chiesa's deal with Juventus expires next summer and while the Bianconeri are hoping to extend his contract, they are also aware that it would be in their best interest to cash in on him this summer if a deal doesn't look like being reached.

Newcastle could deploy right-footed Chiesa on the right wing

The issue we have here is that Anthony Gordon has made the left wing his own but does have Harvey Barnes breathing down his neck, do we really need a third first-team-quality player competing for one position?

That being said, Chiesa is right-footed so he could surely do just as good a job on the right as he has been doing on the left for Juventus with his 10 goal involvements in 28 games this season.

Chisea would be seen as a statement signing, for sure, and definitely an upgrade on Miguel Almiron - we're just concerned about his position ... and beating the competition to his signing.
