France striker Hugo Ekitike has now rejected a move to Newcastle United on two occasions, when it looked almost nailed on that he would become a Newcastle player.

The latest snub came in the summer when Ekitike opted to join Liverpool when the Reds seemingly made a bid to sign the talented forward, when Newcastle rejected their approach for Alexander Isak.

We'll never know the truth behind how that all played out, but what we do know is that Ekitike made his choice and opted for Anfield.

Recent reports suggested that the 23-year-old perhaps wouldn't have signed for Liverpool had he known they were still going to pursue Alexander Isak.

Hugo Ekitike has no regrets over opting to move to Liverpool

Ekitike has now moved to dispel those rumours, telling TNT Sports that he has no regret over his decision.

“Why Liverpool instead of Newcastle? It was my choice, it’s what I wanted,” he said.

“Because I had more of a feeling coming here and I knew it was the right time and the right place for me. I wanted to get back to the top level and come back this time better equipped, more ready in all aspects. And I don’t think I was wrong.”

Hugo Ekitike could make Alexander Isak question his decision

In fairness, it's Isak who could be regretting his choices right now. Ekitike hit the ground running at Liverpool and is scoring for fun, which is going to make it hard for the £125 million striker to nail down a place.

Isak looked well off the pace when he came on against Everton on Saturday, as a summer of throwing his toys out of his pram rather than getting on with his job has left him well below match fitness.

The longer it takes to get back to his best, the more Ekitike could make that spot his own and keep him out of the side.
