Newcastle United survived two games in two days over the weekend as they head towards the opening game of the Premier League season against Southampton on Saturday.

Despite a frustrating summer in terms of the club's transfer business, Newcastle were able to had St James' Park debuts to a few new players, one of which was newest signing, Will Osula.

Osula joined the Magpies from Sheffield United for a £15 million fee (£10m +£5m in add-on) just a few days before the Sela Weekender and was handed his debut against Brest in the game on Saturday.

The 21-year-old impressed a lot of people with his debut, looking fast and strong with great tenacity. If it weren't for a marginal offside call, Osula would have come away with a goal too putting away a calm finish in a one-on-one with the Brest 'keeper.

Will Osula was amazed at the reception he got on Saturday

Osula has since spoken to The Chronicle about his first experience at St James' Park as a Newcastle player and he said he was 'blown away' by the fans.

"It was amazing, a great feeling, I just looked up and saw everybody clapping me. I am blown away by the welcome I have had from the fans and the team.

"I can't wait to work hard for Newcastle United now. They have given me this opportunity and I want to repay them. I will look forward to working hard for this club and doing my best."

Osula is fully aware of his role at Newcastle United

Given that the average attendance over the weekend was around the 30,000 mark, Osula is going to freak when he's out there in front of 50,000 Geordies playing in a competitive match.

Osula is aware that his role is essentially a backup one and that he won't play too often this season, but it's still a challenge he's more than willing to meet head-on and he says he is ready to play whenever Eddie Howe needs him to.

"Whichever game the gaffer tells me to play, I'll play. Eddie Howe wants to improve me. He has helped a lot of younger players here and helped polish them and make them better.

"Hopefully, I can be part of that. I can only improve with the gaffer and the coaches here."
