Newcastle United were beaten 1-0 at St James' Park by an annoyingly good Everton side, but thanks to Aston Villa throwing away their golden chance to overtake the Magpies in the Premier League, Eddie Howe's team still qualified for next season's Champions League.

It was a pretty poor team performance by Newcastle today, if truth be told, with Eddie Howe throwing Callum Wilson and Will Osula on the pitch while keeping Alexander Isak on for the full game too.

Unfortunately, all that firepower still wasn't enough to get beyond Jordan Pickford, who was in inspired form for the Toffees.

Callum Wilson came on looking for that elusive 50th goal for Newcastle United, having been stuck on 49 since he poked the ball home against Birmingham in the FA Cup back in February.

Callum Wilson looked very emotional at full time today

It now looks like today was Wilson's last chance to hit the 50 mark as the No. 9 took a solo walk down towards the Gallowgate to applaud the fans, looking very emotional on his return to the centre of the pitch.

We know today's result was bad, but we're sure he wasn't getting teary-eyed over a defeat to Everton, so it very much looks like Callum Wilson will be leaving Newcastle this summer.

It would have been nice for him to back that 50th today, for him and for the club, as it would have calmed a lot of nerves, but it wasn't meant to be.

Newcastle haven't offered Callum Wilson a new contract

Wilson's contract is up at the end of the season and there appears to have been no movement towards a new deal being offered, so with that and the tears, we think it looks pretty nailed on that he's on the move.

Today's opponents, Everton, along with Leeds United, are both said to be interested, while Dietmar Hamann has suggested Wrexham would be a good destination for the 33-year-old.

Wherever he ends up, we wish him the best of luck, as long as he doesn't score against us, that is.
