'It has to be big': Fabrizio Romano weighs in on Alexander Isak speculation with Arsenal and Liverpool keen

Speculation around the future of Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak is going to be more prevalent than Nitrogen in the air this summer; it's just a fact of life that we fans are going to have to put up with.

Normally, with something like this, we'd be saying something like, "Newcastle face a fight to keep their star striker" or some other form of doom-mongering, but so confident are we that the club will pull out all the stops to keep Isak at the club, these rumours will be nothing more than cannon fodder for us to pull them apart.

That is, of course, if we qualify for the Champions League. That confidence might take a hit should we fail to secure a place in Europe's top competition.

For now, though, confidence is high, and it is also shared by people outside of the club, such as transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano.

Fabrizio Romano says it would take something 'crazy' to get Newcastle to sell Alexander Isak

Speaking about Arsenal and Liverpool's interest in Isak on his YouTube channel, Romano has said that it would take something 'crazy' to get Newcastle to budge.

“Arsenal consider him the dream target but it’s not an easy one,” Romano said. “Liverpool really appreciate the player. Liverpool have made some contact too.

“But the problem in this case is Newcastle. They will make life very difficult for any club interested in Isak because they want to keep the player. For Isak, it has to be a big, big proposal. They want to keep the player.

“They see Isak as part of the club next season. To change this would take something completely crazy.”

Barcelona pose no threat to Alexander Isak's future

Fabrizio Romano acknowledges the Barcelona rumours as well and says that the Spanish giants definitely like Isak, but could never afford him.

To be fair, not being able to afford someone hasn't stopped Barcelona in the past, but again, Yasir Al-Rumayyan has told the board to resist any offers for Isak, and the player himself has shown no signs of wanting to leave.

We can sit back and laugh off all of these rumours. We're not even in the same room as the Big Red Panic Button at the minute, never mind being close to pressing it.
