It has been 18 years since a very special night at St James' Park produced one of Newcastle United's most infamous photos

When rival fans love to tease Newcastle United supporters for their bare trophy cabinet, they clearly weren't paying attention 18 years ago today.

It took just 14 seconds into commentary last week when Newcastle United took on Brighton in the FA Cup before it was mentioned how long it has been since Newcastle have won a major trophy, and that's still probably not the quickest mention of it by a commentator after kick-off.

Those outside of Newcastle absolutely love bringing up the fact that the Magpies haven't won a major honour in 70 years.

That may be the case, but our trophy cabinet is far from empty. How many other clubs can boast the Sela Cup and the Diriyah Season Cup among their trophies? Eh? EH?

And of course let us not forget that on this day, the 8th March in 2007 then Newcastle United captain was presented by UEFA with the Intertoto ... plaque? certificate? Whatever it was.

Before Newcastle's round of 16 tie against AZ Alkmaar, Scott Parker was pictured with the hideous trophy and looked about as thrilled with it as its look deserved.

As the last surviving Intertoto Cup team in the UEFA Cup, Newcastle were declared overall winners of the competition, but rather than a nice shiny trophy we received what is perhaps the saddest memento in football.

Where has the time gone?

Scott Parker's face honestly summed it up entirely. It was a backdoor into the UEFA Cup and that was great, but to call it the Intertoto CUP when no such cup existed was always baffling.

What's even scarier now is that any kids born on that day are now legally old enough to drink. Where is the time going?
