'It doesn't work like that': Stan Collymore drops truth on Newcastle United fans over Alexander Isak
As Liverpool make the moves required in order to fund a move for Alexander Isak, former Red Stan Collymore has given Newcastle United fans an unwanted reality check.
Liverpool is moving forward with the sale of Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich, which is expected to be what will provide the green light to make a bid for Newcastle's Alexander Isak.
It's becoming increasingly clear that Isak wants away from Newcastle, and given the reasons behind it - broken promises, a stalled project, PSR stopping the club from being able to offer him top wages - it's not hard to sympathise with Isak's position.
As a fan, it is hard to accept, regardless of the empathy, though, as for whatever reason, we expect these hired servants to show loyalty. Unless it's a player who has supported the club since they were young, you're not really going to get that loyalty. It's a career, a short career, and players will almost always try to get the most out of it.
Stan Collymore gives Newcastle fans an unwanted dose of reality
It's a sad reality, but one that Newcastle fans are facing right now, and Stan Collymore has now written in his column for Caught Offside, that there is another reality the Newcastle fans have to face.
“I can only see Alexander Isak joining Liverpool if he does leave Newcastle, which is now expected.
“I think this has been something that’s been ongoing probably for 12 months or more. I think the expectation from Newcastle was that it was going to be next season that other clubs were going to bid.
“A lot of fans will want him to be sold abroad, but it doesn’t work like that. If the player says that they’re going to down tools unless you let me go to this specific club, it’s very, very difficult for the club.”

We all wish he'd just take the obscene Al-Hilal offer so he doesn't haunt us next season
Of course, we'd all have preferred to see Isak take the Al-Hilal offer, which was to net him a reported £600,000-a-week tax-free, which is frankly obscene. So we have to have some respect for Isak, because it's clearly not just about the money.
The reality is that, other than Saudi clubs, Liverpool is the only club that can realistically afford Isak right now, and if he wants to go, we're far better off selling him and using the money to rebuild than we are having a moping player around the dressing room.
Our concern is that the money doesn't get reinvested this summer. We only have Anthony Elanga to show for our transfer efforts this summer, and everything else we've touched has turned to shredded wheat. We may have money after Isak goes, but do we have capable staff?
