Eddie Howe is looking to add support to his attack this summer with a right winger a priority position for Newcastle United but there is a central attacking midfielder who has the club's attention too.
We'd expect that the acquisition of a right-winger would be the priority over a CAM, certainly in terms of how much the club would be willing to spend this summer, but the prospect of bringing in Nottingham Forest's Morgan Gibbs-White is such an interesting one, that we're really hoping there's room in the squad and the budget for him too.
It's expected that Nottingham Forest would want £40million for the former England U21 international who had a deadly partnership with Anthony Gordon at last summer's U21s European Championships, which was key to the Young Lions lifting the trophy.
Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in the 24-year-old but transfer journalist Dean Jones has 'heard whispers' that Newcastle could be his preferred destination.
According to Give Me Sport, Dean Jones has claimed that Morgan Gibbs-White would be the perfect midfielder partner for Alexander Isak and that could be enough to tempt the former Wolves man to choose Newcastle.
“Doubt continues to linger around the potential of him staying at Nottingham Forest and my hunch is that if he leaves, Newcastle would be the club best-placed to sign him.
“Spurs are being linked too but I’ve heard a few whispers around the Newcastle side of this that would make me side with them slightly in terms of being favourites at this early stage.
“He would be such an intriguing signing in that Newcastle team, a lovely player to have, making inroads behind Isak.
“We know the priority for Newcastle is to find an attacker for the right side of the attack but I would still keep an eye on Gibbs-White and how his situation starts to open up.”
For us it's the idea of having MGW link up with Anthony Gordon again, having watched them in action in the U21 Euros last year.
The issue is that £40million, while a relatively good deal, is still a hefty chunk of change when we're penny-pinching and there are other positions we need to fill out first.
We're keeping our fingers crossed for this one, though as we feel Gibbs-White would be an excellent addition to the squad for next season.
