Incoming Newcastle United signing Anthony Elanga gives the Toon Army something to get very excited about
Newcastle United should be in the final stages of signing Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest in a deal worth around £55 million.
The Swedish winger landed at Newcastle Airport on Tuesday evening to undergo a medical at the club ahead of signing what is being reported to be a five-year deal at Newcastle United.
It has been a long, long pursuit by Newcastle to get Elanga through the door, but it appears to be finally happening.
It's no wonder it took Newcastle so long to catch the 23-year-old, given just how quick he is, as the man himself has demonstrated on Instagram.
Anthony Elanga has shown how rapid he is on social media
The pacey winger showed just how quick he is with a post on his Instagram which is being picked up by various outlets.
Elanga managed a 100m sprint in under 11 seconds, hitting a top speed of 39.75kph (24.7 mph). There can't be many players in the Premier League who can get close to that, which is excellent news for Newcastle as they no longer have to try.
Even better for Eddie Howe is that on the opposite flank we'll have Anthony Gordon who isn't far behind Elanga in terms of pace, and in the middle is Alexander Isak who's no slouch either. Our attack is going to terrify defences next season.
'Anthony Elanga had Dan Burn on toast'
We obviously knew Anthony Elanga was quick, but we didn't realise just how quick. Now we really feel bad for placing any of the blame at Dan Burn's feet the season before last.
Burn was playing at left-back for Newcastle, going up against Elanga, and the number of times Burn was left standing was shocking, but we absolutely get it now. Even young Dan Burn wouldn't have had a chance.
We're so happy that's not our problem any more and is soon to be our asset.
