Eddie Howe has endured perhaps his toughest spell as Newcastle United boss as some sections of the fanbase started to turn against the 48-year-old after a run of bad results.

The core of the fanbase remains steadfastly behind the former Bournemouth boss, but after a run of poor results and even worse performances, there were more turning to the dark side than ever before.

On top of that, Eddie Howe has been linked with the England job before Thomas Tuchel put pen to paper on a new deal, as well as the Manchester United job and now the Tottenham Hotspur job.

Long-term security and steady projects seem to be more Eddie Howe's bag, though, and that certainly rules out a move to either of the aforementioned clubs who have been chewing up and spitting out managers at an alarming rate.

Eddie Howe reiterated his commitment to Newcastle

But just to put Newcastle fans' minds at ease, Eddie Howe has reiterated his commitment to Newcastle in an interview with The Chronicle.

"I'm still in it for the long haul," he said. "All of those things haven’t changed for me.

"There’s got to be a good feeling, there’s got to be the team moving forward, there’s got to be the players playing for us and showing that every week.

"They’re always the most important people, the players, and how they feel and how they play. Me, personally, I’m really happy as long as the team’s playing well."

Eddie Howe is still the right man to lead us forward - as long as he's backed properly

That may not come as good news to every fan, we're sure, but as someone who is staunchly against chopping and changing managers, I'm pleased he still has his head in the game as far as Newcastle are concerned.

Howe has endured a lot of things that have derailed his mission, and yet he's still managed to over-deliver. I had a wobble recently after those poor performances, but common sense prevailed, and I still believe we have the best man for the job.

The big test for the club now is to back him properly this summer. Ross Wilson has to give Howe what he needs in the transfer window, and he needs to work quickly, which is something that didn't happen last year, then we can properly judge where we are as a club.
