'I'm telling you now': Former Newcastle United hero Mick Quinn backs Magpies star to be first-choice for England
Last night Newcastle United put up an admirable fight against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg, and in truth, the 0-2 scoreline may have flattered the visitors to a degree.
Don't get me wrong, Newcastle were second best, but it all came down to taking chances, and that's where Manchester City had the edge, but while they were deserved winners, the scoreline suggests it was a lot more comfortable for Pep Guardiola's men than it perhaps was.
Newcastle weren't great, obviously, but they were good. However, they had one player who was absolutely excellent from start to finish in Lewis Hall.
Since he returned from his long-term injury, Hall has transformed Newcastle, and he just seems to be getting better and better with every game.
Mick Quinn says Lewis Hall is England's future
Lewis Hall missed out on being part of England's World Cup qualification journey through injury, but former Magpie Mick Quinn is adamant that he should be on the plane in the summer as England's first-choice left-back, as he told talkSPORT.
“He got injured, I think it was springtime last year, and I was touting him for the England left-back.
“This kid is the next England left-back. I'm telling you now, he's grown in confidence, he's over his injury.
"He could play midfield as well, because he's skilful, he can beat players, he can cross the ball, he can defend.
“He is a brilliant left-back, and he's the future of Newcastle United, along with Lewis Miley, who's only 19. And this kid can play any position, he's got such a good footballing brain."
Newcastle snapped up a bargain when they signed Lewis Hall for £28 million
Eyebrows were raised when Newcastle agreed to a £28 million option to buy when he was loaned from Chelsea, and despite limited game time and a feeling that Eddie Howe wasn't keen on the youngster, the Magpies took up that option and signed him on a permanent basis.
The fee had add-ons that could make it rise to £32 million, and in hindsight, you could double that figure, and we'd still feel we got a bargain. There's been a lot of talk of making sure we keep Tino Livramento and Sandro Tonali at the club, but we feel that Lewis Hall is equally important to look after.
He is definitely the future for England, but more importantly, the lifelong Newcastle fan could be the future for the Toon if we treat him properly.
