Newcastle United have some contracts to get signed before the January transfer window opens with several players at risk of being able to talk to other clubs about a pre-contract agreement ahead of a summer move.

While a couple of players on expiring contracts would definitely best served leaving the club, there are others who the Magpies would like to tie down to longer deals.

Callum Wilson could sign a pre-contract agreement with another club in January and, while Newcastle would miss out on a few million quid if that was the case, would anyone lose any sleep? If anything it would come as a relief as it would force the club to bring in a new striker.

On the other side of the coin is the likes of Fabian Schar who is in a similar contract situation but is more likely to be offered a new deal.

Fabian Schar intends to stay at Newcastle for as long as they'll have him

Fabian Schar has no intentions of leaving Newcastle just yet

Indeed, it has recently been reported that talks are already underway with Schar and Emil Krafth to sign contract extensions before the turn of the year.

And now, with Fabian Schar speaking to blueSport in his native Switzerland, we have an idea of what Schar's plans are.

“I feel really comfortable at Newcastle, I’ve been playing for years and I have a coach who relies on me. Everything is right for me. I would love to stay. The club and the coach know what they have in me,”

“Basically, things have always gone relatively quickly in recent years. The club wanted to keep me, I wanted to stay. That’s why it was never a big deal.”

Fabian Schar is more than just a solid defender

We are definitely not ready to lose Fabian Schar just yet so it's good news that he has no intention of leaving.

Schar is probably Newcastle's most value-for-money player of all time, arriving for just £3 million from Deportivo La Coruna in 2018 and going on to not just be a solid defender but to score some belting goals, including that fourth against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.

He is getting on a bit in footballing terms, but until we sign that right-sided centre-back we've been looking for, he's the main man and that's fine by us.
