Tomorrow is the big day when the January transfer window swings open and clubs can start papering over the cracks in their squad.
Newcastle United need to do that desperately after a season filled with freak injuries and long-term absences which have exposed the lack of depth in the current squad. There's no way in 2023 that we should be using Matt Ritchie as much as we have. Sorry, Matt.
Recently the Magpies were linked with a move for 20-year-old Juventus winger Matias Soule who is currently out on loan at Frosinone.
It was reported that a bid of £21million would be too good to turn down and that Newcastle were ready to cough up the cash.
However, in a recent interview with Tutto Mercato Web, Soule has strongly suggested that he'd like to see out his loan deal at Frosinone and help the Serie A side climb up the table.
When asked if he is staying at Frosinone, Soule gave a very short, direct answer.
“I think so, I will stay until the end of the championship.”
There's still obviously a small element of doubt there from the winger once compared to Lionel Messi, and that could still be enough to allow Newcastle to swoop in.
Soule has seven goals and one assist in 16 Serie A games so far this season in a struggling Frosinone side, so he looks the real deal. He is another left-footed right winger like Miguel Almiron and watching clips of him he looks as one-footed as the Paraguayan, but he has a much larger bag of tricks and seems to have more ideas in the final third than cutting inside and trying to curl one into the top corner, or stopping and playing it back to the fullback.
We are hoping there's more than just a grain of truth in this one as Soule looks like he's got bags of potential, and also, we are just so sick of Miggy and his lack of ideas in the final third right now.
