'I was wrong': Chris Sutton now predicts who will win on Sunday - Newcastle United or Aston Villa
Eddie Howe once again takes on the man who paved the way for his Newcastle United career as Unai Emery, who turned down the Newcastle job before Howe accepted it, brings his Aston Villa side to St James' Park on Sunday. Kick-off is at 2 pm, live on Sky Sports.
Last week, Aston Villa were being touted as title challengers, but a slip-up against Everton has changed all that. And that's a sign of just how tight the league is this season. Newcastle missed the chance to go fifth in the league last week when they failed to beat Wolves, but after spending the first half of the season in the bottom half of the table, the fact that we're in with a shout of such lofty heights is impressive in itself.
There are no predictable games in the Premier League this season, which is why we're glad we've got the likes of Paul Merson and Chris Sutton to do that for us.
Merson couldn't separate the two sides ahead of this one, and Chris Sutton has had a bash in his column for the BBC.
Chris Sutton thinks his old side are going to struggle on Sunday
Sutton chose to focus on Aston Villa this week, but it was mostly negative, so that gives us a nice bit of comfort going into the game, especially given his predicted scoreline.
"Aston Villa's home defeat by Everton last week showed again how difficult it is to make predictions this season.
"Villa had won their past 11 home games before then, and had been pretty dominant against Everton in the league in recent seasons too. I was extremely confident they would win to keep the pressure on Arsenal... and I was wrong!
"Now? Well, Unai Emery's side have a long trip to Turkey in the Europa League before this game and they have a few injuries to contend with too. John McGinn and Boubacar Kamara will be badly missed and I am slightly concerned about their options up front now Donyell Malen has left.
"That's why I'm backing Newcastle here. They are so strong in midfield but they are especially good at home - I always fancy them to win at St James' Park.
"Sutton's prediction: 2-1"
Bruno Guimaraes' injury could be the ultimate determining factor on Sunday
Bruno Guimaraes' availability could play a huge part in this one, just psychologically more than anything. Lewis Miley is ready to step up to fill the void on the pitch, and Kieran Trippier will be there to provide the voice, but that record without Bruno in the side is something that exists.
He is just one man, though, and if we can't win without him in the side, then that's a problem all of its own.
Saying that, we still reckon the Brazilian will start on Sunday anyway, so it's likely a moot point.
