'I still have some scars': Marcel Desailly has not forgotten his time in the Premier League thanks to ex-Newcastle United striker
Marcel Desailly was one of the best defenders in the game when he landed at Chelsea in 1998, but even the Frenchman found it tough when coming up against the likes of Alan Shearer at Newcastle United.
Desailly has spoken about how good Alan Shearer was in the past, and we're sure that amazing goal Shearer scored, where he backed into Desailly, turned him around and fired a rocket of a shot thirty yards into the top corner lives rent-free in his head.
It still remains one of the greatest goals scored by any Newcastle United player in the Premier League, but according to Desailly, that's not the only reminder he has of Shearer.
Speaking on The Overlap, Desailly got Roy Keane to repeat his 'sneaky' jibe about Alan Shearer throwing elbows has he talked about the difficulty adapting to the English game.
Marcel Desailly claims Alan Shearer gave him scars from sneaky elbows
Desailly said that he still has scars from his days in the Premier League, hinting that they were given to him by Newcastle's former number 9.
"Yeah, so Shearer, I still have some scars.
"Only England was still having the fighting spirit, that's why I decided to come to England to experience the fighting spirit because I was a big fella, I was strong, I was ready for the battle, I was a leader."
Alan Shearer wasn't the only former Toon striker to leave a mark
Desailly name-dropped another former Newcastle striker in Duncan Ferguson, before talking about being flattened by Dion Dublin.
Despite this, we'd still count Marcel Desailly as one of the greats, even if Shearer did have him on toast.
We also love that Roy Keane is still bitter after all these years.
