There are several positions Newcastle United need to find additions for in January but goalkeeper probably isn't one of them.

Newcastle's injury crisis has exposed the lack of depth in certain areas of the pitch with cover in central defence and up front both causes for concern.

However, TalkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor has suggested that Newcastle may look to add to their goalkeeping ranks in January.

Arsenal stopper Aaron Ramsdale has been bumped down to second choice since the arrival of David Raya in the summer and with Euro 2024 on the horizon, it's widely expected that Ramsdale will want to move in January to keep his England hopes alive.

We all know that you don't have to be playing regularly, or at all, to be selected for England under Gareth Southgate (just had to get that dig in there), but Aaron Ramsdale won't want to take that risk, and with Nick Pope seemingly out of Southgate's plans, could Ramsdale now replace the former Burnley man at club level too?

Agbonlahor certainly thinks so as he and Alan Brazil discussed Ramsdale on Talksport this morning.

“There’s a lot of pressure on Ramsdale, but he has to go in January. Arteta’s made it clear.”

Said Gabby, with Alan Brazil responding:

“Couple of names mentioned: Bayern (Munich) and Chelsea.”

Prompting Agbonlahor to explain why he thinks Newcastle could be Ramdsale's next destination.

“I say Newcastle. Newcastle or Chelsea for me, because Pope’s a top shot stopper but can’t play with his feet. Every Premier League club now near the top has got a keeper who can play out from the back and Pope can’t. That’s the reason he’s maybe going to miss out on the Euros.“

He has a point when it comes to Pope to be fair, but he's still a very capable keeper and probably not one Eddie Howe is looking to replace just yet. Given that Ramsdale cost Arsenal £30million you'd expect that they'd want more than that if he were to leave, so it doesn't really make sense right now.
