Talk of a 'feud' within the corridors of power at Newcastle United is finally starting to die down after Eddie Howe and Paul Mitchell sat down earlier this week.

The two have held 'clear the air talks' and both are focused on doing the best they can for Newcastle United.

Not that we think that at any point they weren't working towards that same goal.

The pair have only just entered a point of the calendar where they can take the time to really sit down and get to know each other with Mitchell coming into the club in the middle of a boardroom transition period and a transfer window. All the while, Eddie Howe is trying to get his player ready for the new campaign.

Many fans wanted Paul Mitchell to succeed Dan Ashworth

Now that things have settled down and the regular season is underway, it was only natural that the two would find time to sit down and discuss their vision and work out how one could support the other.

And after a month of journalists reporting on Paul Mitchell being a force of evil in the background, it's good to see someone come out and speak positively about our new sporting director, who many fans had high on their wish list to take over from Dan Ashworth.

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Brad Friedel has spoken to the Planet Premier League podcast as someone who has worked with Mitchell in the past.

Brad Friedel was full of praise for Paul Mitchell

The former USMNT star only had positive things to say about Mitchell.

“They have had some change behind the scenes and I have worked with their Sporting Director before, Paul Mitchell, he’s actually very very good and he might need a little bit of time.

“He might need some time to assess the squad with Eddie and get used to him. The holes in their team will get patched up, I know how he works. I would be concerned by the chances conceded, but they have a team that knows how to deal with that.”

Time is a great healer and that's all Mitchell and Howe needed was a bit of time, and now they have it, things are starting to move in the right direction.
