Lewis Hall's foot injury in February couldn't have come at a worse time for the Newcastle United full-back.

Not only did Hall have to miss Newcastle's Carabao Cup win at Wembley, but he'd just broken into the England senior side and looked good value for his place before being put on the long-term injury list.

It hasn't been a straight road back for the youngster, either, who picked up a hamstring injury shortly after returning from his foot surgery layoff.

He's back from injury again now and has made a couple of appearances for Newcastle, but not enough to put himself into Thomas Tuchel's thoughts yet, although he was called up for the England U21s this month.

Micah Richards decides between Myles Lewis-Skelly and Lewis Hall for England's left-back

He's still thought to be one of Tuchel's best options for the problematic left-back position, which has also been occupied by Newcastle's Tino Livramento. But Micah Richards believes Hall is up against Arsenal's Myles Lewis-Skelly, and the former Man City man told Gary Lineker on The Rest Is Football podcast that he expects the Arsenal man to edge out Hall for the World Cup.

“I would go Myles Lewis-Skelly.

“Yeah, Lewis Hall is very good and he’s consistent. You know what you’re going to get.

“I just feel Myles Lewis-Skelly has got the X factor. When he plays in the Champions League.

“The only thing that will stop him now, is he going to play enough football between now and the end of the season?”

Micah, you forgot about Tino

For our money, we'd say both have to beat out Tino Livramento first, as he has proven to be a huge asset at left-back for club and country, despite being a right-back by trade.

If Tino isn't given the right-back role for England, then he's probably top of the list for the left-back berth.

As for the Hall versus Lewis-Skelly debate, club bias says Hall for us, but we can't deny that Myles Lewis-Skelly is one hell of a player.
