'I don't understand': Brazilian journalist blasts Newcastle United star with harsh criticism
Newcastle United's internationals are heading back to Tyneside after a pretty decent break for the most part.
One player who may not be overly pleased with his international exploits, though, is Joelinton, who had to wait patiently to be reinstated to the Brazil squad only to suffer a nightmare fortnight.
Things got off to the worst possible start for Joelinton and his Brazilian teammate Bruno Guimaraes when their flight from Amsterdam to Seoul was diverted back to the Netherlands with a faulty window after having already been in the air for six hours.
A thirty-hour delay saw the duo eventually link up with their compatriots for the two friendlies in Asia, which saw Bruno Guimaraes start both games while Joelinton watched on from the bench.
Joelinton came in for some flak from Brazilian journalist Rodrigo Matto
Joelinton did eventually get some game time, replacing Bruno Guimaraes before the hour mark in the 3-2 defeat to Japan.
He didn't receive many favourable marks for his input after that game, which has now been followed up with a scathing comment from journalist Rodrigo Matto, who told UOL (via Sport Witness) that he doesn't understand Joelinton's inclusion.
“Joelinton, for instance. I can’t understand Joelinton being in the Brazilian national team. I think he’s a player who doesn’t have the skills to be there"
We're not having anyone slander wor Joey
Now listen here, Rodrigo, not every Brazilian needs to have the fancy footwork. Some can just clatter people and break up the opposition's counterattacks.
Some can just be bloody lovely human beings with the vascularity of a bodybuilder.
Joelinton has worked harder than anyone to earn those international callups. The man has completely turned his career around in the last few years; give him a chance.
