'I don't try to think about it': Long-term Newcastle United target laughs off £100m price tag after teammate's taunts

Newcastle United are one of several big clubs keeping a close eye on Southampton midfielder Tyler Dibling following an impressive first season in the Premier League.

Tyler Dibling caught the eye of Newcastle United when he was just 16 and scored a hat-trick of near-identical goals against the Magpies U21s.

Now that the youngster has had a season in the Premier League, showing that he is on course to fulfil that early promise, Newcastle are expected to be one of the clubs in the mix for the 19-year-old in the summer.

Southampton had slapped a £100 million price tag on the talented youngster in order to ward off prospective suitors, but following their relegation, they know that they'll not receive anywhere near that if he were to leave in the summer.

While Southampton may have been deadly serious about the valuation, the player himself doesn't seem to be affected by it, although Aaron Ramsdale does seem to enjoy bringing it up at any given opportunity as he told reporters (via The Chronicle).

"Rambo loves it. I’ll miss a shot in training and he’ll just go, '£90million! £80million!' as it keeps going down.

"It’s all good fun. There’s a few nicknames going around. It’s all jokes. Nobody takes it seriously. It’s just a number. It’s all fun. I don't try to think about it and just try and go into train every day and work hard and train the best I can."

Several big clubs are likely to be chasing Tyler Dibling's signature

Dibling is one of several players Newcastle are looking at to fill the void on the right wing, and the fact that he's just as comfortable playing through the middle makes him a good candidate as Paul Mitchell will be looking for versatile players who can cover elsewhere if needed.

However, thanks to his performances this season, Newcastle will face competition from some top Premier League sides if they are to throw their hat into the ring.

As much as we rate Dibling as one for the future, we're not yet convinced he has what it takes to perform in a Champions League-chasing side right away, and as such, he may appear further down the list of Mitchell's priorities.

Of course, that's just our opinion, and only time will tell.
