'I don't know': Manager admits permanent move for Newcastle loanee is unlikely at this stage

Newcastle United may have another summer of trying to get rid of Ryan Fraser to look forward to.

While Ryan Fraser is having a decent time of it at Southampton, scoring a brace on Boxing Day, Saints manager Russell Martin isn't sure if the flying Scotsman will be there beyond his loan deal.

What's for certain is that should Fraser return to Newcastle in the summer he'll hardly be welcomed with open arms by Eddie Howe after the gaffer banished Fraser to train with the reserves before sending him out on loan.

Southampton would love to keep Fraser

The two have a storied history and it seems that bygones couldn't be bygones and the two simply cannot work together.

Meanwhile, Martin would love to be able to keep Fraser but has admitted that finances make the deal a tricky one as quoted in The Chronicle.

“I don’t know (if he’ll sign permanently), it’s out of my remit really. Would I like to make it permanent? Yes. The chance of that happening I think, because of the finances involved, the timing and his situation, is low.

“I don’t know if it will be feasible right now but he just needs to keep doing what he is doing, he is in a really good place and enjoying it. We will see but I am pretty sure he would love to stay here beyond this season.”

Isaac Hayden is set to return to Newcastle this month too

I'm sure Eddie Howe would dip into his own pocket to make it work if he had to, Russell, just give him a bell.

With Isaac Hayden set to return to the club this month after an unsuccessful loan in Belgium with Standard Liege, it's once again back to Newcastle to find a way to get a couple of reasonably high earners off the books permanently.

What would the FFP implications be if we just paid them off and terminated their contracts I wonder? Probably the same as keeping them around and paying them weekly I imagine. Curses.
