Hugo Ekitike certainly doesn't have many fans on Tyneside after twice coming close to signing for Newcastle United and ultimately moving elsewhere.

The latest episode being in the summer when it looked like the Magpies were finally set to get their man, but Liverpool, seemingly narked that Newcastle weren't selling them Alexander Isak, moved to scoop up our primary target.

Obviously, the Reds ultimately got Alexander Isak too, and fortunately for Hugo Ekitike, they got a diluted version of Isak made out of soggy cardboard and paperclips, meaning that the Frenchman has become Liverpool's main striker this season.

Hugo Ekitike found the net at St James' Park earlier in the season as one of the forwards who rejected us in the summer, only to score against us during the campaign.

Hugo Ekitike has no regrets over his decision in the summer

The 23-year-old has been speaking to the press about Liverpool's upcoming meeting with Newcastle and how he feels about rejecting them twice.

“Obviously we were close but I made my choice. I knew where I wanted to come so that’s all I can give to you.

“I play for Liverpool, I have my fans here. We played there already [at St James’ Park] and won so hopefully we will have a great week of working.”

Hugo Ekitike is ready for the reception from the travelling Newcastle fans

Ekitike was then pushed about the potential stick he may get from the Newcastle fans on Saturday, and the striker was pretty bullish with his response.

“I don’t care about this. I just want to play and help the team. Simple.”

What's annoying is just how good Ekitike has been for Liverpool this season. At least when he rejected us for Paris Saint-Germain, he had the decency to be pure horseradish!
