Newcastle United were booed off the pitch on Saturday after losing at home to Brentford, who hadn't won at St James' Park for over 90 years until the weekend.

The fans inside the stadium waited until the full-time whistle to express their discontent, but it obviously didn't go unnoticed.

Conversation amongst Newcastle fans for the last week or so has been mostly a debate over whether Eddie Howe has taken us as far as he can.

There is a feeling from some quarters that we've hit the limit of what Eddie Howe can achieve and that it's time for a fresh face with fresh ideas.

Eddie Howe is still convinced he is the right man for the job

One man who fervently disagrees with that notion is Eddie Howe himself, who addressed his future during his press conference on Monday morning ahead of Tuesday's Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur.

"I care so much about what I do. I care so much about the club. The club for me is always No 1, not myself, not any of the players, it is the club. And what that stands for.

"No, there's no doubt in my mind (that he's the right man for the job), and that's why I'm sitting here. If there was, then I wouldn't be because, as I said, the club's the most important thing.

"As long as I feel that in my heart and my spirit, then my desire and motivation levels are as high as they've ever been. I'll fight every day to my maximum for the club.

"I'd never put myself before the club if I didn't think I was the correct man to take the team forward and I could give the players what they need, then I would step aside and let someone else do it."

Would changing the manager right now make any difference?

After wavering in the wake of the Manchester City defeat, I'm back supporting Eddie Howe, purely because I think that no matter who is in the dugout, they can't fix the problems that are plaguing us right now.

A build-up of injuries, a congested fixture schedule leading to fatigued players who are having to cover for the aforementioned injured parties, and media speculation over our star players, causing disruption in the camp.

A new manager may bring new tactics and a refreshed hope, sure, but if the players don't have the legs to go out there and execute the new tactics, it's all for nowt anyway.
