'I am happy': Anthony Elanga opens up on Newcastle United move now season is underway and touches on Alexander Isak drama
Anthony Elanga was Newcastle United's first signing of the summer, arriving from Nottingham Forest for £55 million.
The Sweden international winger has started two of Newcastle's first three games, coming on as a substitute in the third.
While the pacey winger hasn't been able to lead Newcastle to their first victory as yet, he has no regrets about his choice to move to Tyneside.
Things may have taken a bit of a turn for Elanga when he arrived in time to watch the Alexander Isak drama tear through the club, but in an interview with Fotballskanalen he has spoke about the vibe around the club despite the drama.
Anthony Elanga has no regrets about moving to Newcastle
Elanga spoke about the project at Newcastle and his desire to help the team to add more silverware this season.
“The project (at Newcastle United) is good. We have started well in the first three games, it’s just a shame that we haven’t won.
“But I’m happy with my choice. We have good players, very good leaders and hopefully we can have a good season.
“I want to win everything. I want to win everything at that club. We have many important games this season.
“It’s the league, the Champions League, the FA Cup, the Carabao Cup.
“Hopefully we can win everything with the team.”
Elanga was asked about the Alexander Isak situation
Inevitably, given he's currently on international duty with Sweden alongside Isak, Elanga had to answer some questions about how that has affected the mood at Newcastle.
“Isak is a Liverpool player right now.
“He has had a good career in Newcastle but right now he is a Liverpool player.
“Good luck.”
Has it been strange for you to be friends with Alexander Isak while your team’s supporters are chanting against him?
“He’s a fantastic player and a very good person.
“Now he is a Liverpool player but I have the opportunity to play with him in the national team.”
How have you and the others in the Newcastle United team experienced the turbulence surrounding Alexander Isak?
“It has been chill. He had a contract with us and now he’s with Liverpool.
“We all think he is a very good player.
“We lost a good player but we also signed good players. Hopefully we can look forward and focus on this season.”
Considering you’re friends, did you think it was sad that he left?
“It’s his choice. He chose Liverpool.
“Best of luck. He’s a friend of mine and a fantastic footballer.
