How Lewis Miley could now save Newcastle United £120,000 per week
Lewis Miley continues to impress the football world since his arrival on the scene at Newcastle United.
The academy graduate is often noted for playing with a maturity well beyond his years, and this season, he has taken things to another level.
While his midfield performances have been excellent, and he's starting to add goals to his game quite regularly now, too, he's also shown a willingness to adapt.
Miley has been covering at right-back of late with Kieran Trippier, Tino Livramento, and Emil Krafth all out injured.
Lewis Miley has proven himself to be a competent right-back
Indeed, he's been so good that he could probably be called upon ahead of Emil Krafth in that position going forward.
More crucially, though, 35-year-old Kieran Trippier has often been linked with a Newcastle exit, and it's thought that Ross Wilson is looking to lower the average age of the squad and allowing the former England international to leave would certainly do that.
Tripps is also on around £120,000-a-week, which would certainly be a welcome break on the club's financial bottom line. So if Miley can keep fit, he could be the backup option for Tino Livramento.
We wouldn't want to lose Kieran Trippier from the dressing room
If that were to be the case, we'd fully understand it; however, we wouldn't be overly happy with it.
As much as we were all for Trippier leaving about a year ago when he hit his big slump due to off-field issues, he's once again proven his worth to the football club with his performances this season.
Not only that, but he also brings exceptional leadership and an irreplaceable presence to the club, which could be detrimental if he were to leave completely. We'd love to keep him on as part of the coaching staff, but it all comes down to whether he feels he's anywhere near ready to hang up his boots.
